Another of those facts of life that I don't think about for years, but then suddenly strike me as goofy, at least aesthetically: the division of huge chunks of prairie, by dirt roads, into these one-mile squares.

It's not offensive to me, and I know it's quite practical for access to farmland, but... I don't know. Just absurd somehow at the same time.
